Rights before reach
Composition and sound recording are distinct rights objects with independent verification. Nothing is published on an assumption.
About
Distribution, discovery, tools, and cultural music for the independent music ecosystem.
Orca Universe is an independent music platform. It brings distribution, label services, artist tooling and cultural music into one environment instead of four disconnected products. The name comes from how orcas move: in pods, across enormous distances, using sound to understand the space around them.
The platform is in active construction. Rather than dress prototypes up as finished infrastructure, every simulated part of the product is labelled where it appears. Release delivery to streaming services is simulated. Royalty figures are models, not statements. Service payments are demo records. When those become real, the labels come off.
Principles
Composition and sound recording are distinct rights objects with independent verification. Nothing is published on an assumption.
No fake artists, partners, DSP relationships, revenue claims or testimonials appear anywhere on this platform.
Simulated features stay visible and labelled so nobody makes a business decision on a mock-up.
Orca Commons exists to make openly licensed recordings findable, playable and correctly described.
A composition entering the public domain does not place any recording of it in the public domain. Performances and masters carry their own term, their own territory rules and their own owners. Orca Commons therefore stores two rights records per track and never collapses them into a single status. Where a recording's status is unresolved, the record is labelled “recording rights unclear” or kept unpublished.
